Odisha teenagers Rutuparna Choudhury, Ameek Kiran Batth, Kabir Hans, Ashish Sinha and Abhishek Mohapatra asserted supremacy by winning one singles and three doubles titles in the Sunfeast AITA Super Series U-14 and U-16 Tennis Tournament, held at South Club in Kolkata from February 20 to 25, 2017.
Rutuparna was most successful among the lot, bagging a double crown in girls’ under-16 group. She won the singles title, defeating Sanskriti Dhamera of Telengana 6-4, 6-0 in the summit clash. Earlier in the semi finals she prevailed over Ishita Singh of Haryana 6-3, 6-0.
Rutuparna completed the double, pocketing the doubles crown with Ameek Kiran Batth. In the final, the Odisha duo beat Sanskriti Dhamera (Telangana) and Aditi Narayan (Andhra Pradesh) 6-4, 5-7, 14-12. With this double crown, Rutuparna increased the number of her AITA junior titles to 34, which include 22 doubles and 12 doubles.
